Tajikistan

National Union of People with Disabilities of Tajikistan (NUPDT), OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, World of Community Development (DRJ) Public Organisation
The project aims to train and develop the skills of regional advisors on disability rights in Tajikistan. From August 27 to 29, 2024, participants were introduced to successful advocacy strategies from Kazakhstan, focused on the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The project also provided participants with a unique opportunity to learn from the experiences of disability rights advisors in Kazakhstan. Special attention was given to issues of inclusion and the practical challenges that advisors face on the ground.
During the sessions, specific examples of successful advocacy and interaction with government bodies were discussed, along with methods to promote inclusion in various areas of life, such as access to infrastructure, education, and healthcare. Participants actively engaged in the development of action plans based on Kazakhstan's experience and explored ways to adapt these solutions for Tajikistan.

In the interactive sessions and practical workshops, trainers Kasiyet Omarova and Aizhan Oshakbaeva shared their expertise and led exercises on developing strategic action plans. Particular focus was given to the role of disability rights advisors and the exchange of experiences and best practices between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.
Participants created their own advocacy plans, which they can implement in their regions, helping to strengthen human rights mechanisms and raise awareness of the importance of protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.

This project represents an important step toward improving legal support for people with disabilities in Tajikistan, fostering knowledge exchange and building a network of professionals committed to implementing international human rights standards.
